"All things are difficult before they are easy." - Thomas Fuller
This photo and quote may seem 'one note' at first, and yes, I'm still on runner's high from Philly but bear with me...
I had a great conversation this Thanksgiving about all things being "easy". How striving for ease in one's life is a great goal. I took the position that "easy" is too vanilla pudding (read: boring) and how pushing buttons is where it's at. Spiking the graph with huge highs (and weathering the lows) provides the interest and spark that make life the grand adventure that I value it to be. My conversant was aghast and I laughed at how (admittedly) silly I sounded. So then some food was eaten, drink was drank, and I fell asleep 'til morning.
I think that easy breezy is most appreciated by me in contrast to the challenges of life. However, piling on the difficulty isn't necessary. Life provides bumps in the road and running a smart race is far from easy...You can choose to cut some corners, trample on those in your way, or smell the roses slightly off the beaten path; but running a marathon is difficult no matter how you slice it.
To "Go easy, not hard" is the most difficult challenge of all.
