Here's the first quote to consider - my friend MG found it and it made me hungry:
"The difference between 'involvement' and 'commitment' is like an eggs-and-ham breakfast: the chicken was 'involved' - the pig was 'committed'."
Okay so to me this is an expression of female empowerment. The chicken compromises a part of her future to provide a meal (her eggs). Her involvement means she gives up a piece of herself forever (her potential offspring); but she can live with that.
As for the pig, his commitment = death. Is that more heroic? It's not a compromise at all; it's total sacrifice. Maybe there's a correlation here as to why men kick and drag their heels with regard to marriage. You see, they don't have to give up any of their eggs, but they only get to be the sausage for a short, short time.
*Image is from a market in Peru...I can't begin to describe to you the way that place smelled. The shock and the horror of the pig parts...was also amazing!
