Life of Brian

I snagged this quote from my cousin's AB's FB wall:

Brian: "Please, please, please listen! I've got one or two things to say."
The Crowd: "Tell us! Tell us both of them!"

Brian: "Look, you've got it all wrong! You don't NEED to follow ME, You don't NEED to follow ANYBODY! You've got to think for your selves! You're ALL individuals!"

The Crowd: "Yes! We're all individuals!"

-Monty Python

This quote immediately reminds me of the 1984 Apple Macintosh commercial where ONE person stands against the uniform machine: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OYecfV3ubP8

It makes me think of my 7-year old self wanting more than anything in the world to be "just like everyone else" (sad, but it was only fleeting!).

And now it's 2010, and what I'm really interested in is Lady Gaga and her one-woman quest to carve out a niche of individuality in the music realm, the feminist stew of body-politics and gender bending, and well, manners at the ball park. Seinfeld hates her, and I'm not sold. The WSJ wrote up an opinion piece that challenges her message and her stance on self-presentation. What say you?

  2. Jess, next time you go to a Nats game, rock just a bikini and thigh-high boots. I guarantee you'll garner some attention (wanted or otherwise). Or maybe roll in bikram like that.
