"The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams." - Eleanor Roosevelt
This kind of quote used to really work for me - but lately I've been stuck contemplating the present much more than the future. Too much focus on the future makes your every step, today, seem fateful and overly important. Will it get you where you need/want/dream of going? I think what works best though is a balance (of course). Our dreams (like an XTERRA course) keep you on track to guide your future, but you have to be open to the flats (sorry Patrick!) along the way. And when a rock scramble interrupts a perfectly great mulchy-flat run along the river's edge, you walk with it but don't stop the momentum. And whatever you do, smile for the camera.
