Correlation/Causation

"You must understand that seeing is believing, but also know that believing is seeing." - Denis Waitley

Is this a mere correlation that tricks the senses to a causation? I think this quote is akin to wearing rosy glasses. If you want to see the good, you see the good. If you are in a bad mood and focus on the bad, then well, that's what pops to the fore. In this photo is the deer more surprised to see the viewer or is the viewer the one caught up in the moment by the deer? Either way - I love the photo. The gentle unexpected delight pricks my senses up a little higher. I witness him see me. We are seen.
